Professor İlhan Elmacı was born on April 5, 1962 in Niğde, Turkey. In 1987, he began his neurosurgical residency at the Mental and Neurological Sciences Institute of Bakırköy, İstanbul under Dr. Zeki Oral. In 1991 he was a research and clinical fellow at the University of Zurich, under Professor M. Gazi Yaşargil, where he learned microsurgical techniques.
From 1994 to 2004 he was Assist. and Associated Professor at Marmara University, İstanbul under Professor Necmettin Pamir. In 1997 he worked as a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University - Baltimore, USA under Professor Daniele Rigamonti.
In 2010, Professor Elmacı was appointed Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Acıbadem for Medical School in İstanbul.
Professor Elmaci is chairman of Department of Neurosurgery at Medipol University School of Medicine. He is active in microneurosurgical and endoneurosurgical clinical practice, research and teaching.
